This week I have further developed my idea, and started fleshing out the practicality of my concept. My design needs to be able to be transported to any free space in the city, then can transform into three different structures, depending on it capacity, function and production.
Scattered around the city are fixed permanent (small footprint) structures. These structures have strong architectural presence within the city along with acting as a contextual landmark, for important productions when they come to the city. These fixed structures are also extremely functional as they house all the back of house requirements for a theatre production, for example, office space, storage, accommodation for performers, toilets, security, practice space etc.
Having a fixed structure allows the transforming structure to be mobile whilst creating an adaptive multi-functional site.
Transforming Structure: Structure can transform into three different functions:
Transform 1. Small intimate Theatre
Transform 2. Medium Theatre
Transform 3. Pavilion / Open Performance space
